Unbound Series: The Ekstasis
In my Hellenic heritage, the word Ekstasis (ἔκστασις) signifies the act of "standing outside" oneself—a radical departure from a fixed state. This series was my first profound experience of this concept: a period of intense, expressive inquiry into the nature of systemic constraint. Long before I found the tools of regulation, I used these canvases to document the vital act of severing the invisible ropes that bound me.
The mantra of my own poetry guides the movement of these works:
“Wind blows through me. Bright light finds the empty spot in my mind.”
I used this volatile, raw energy to transform the house and the body into architectural metaphors for a necessary disarray. By inviting that "bright light" into the shadows of memory and desire, I was reaching for a way to transcend emotional lockdown. Through color and dynamic movement, these paintings map a journey from shadow to radical expression, capturing the transformative power of making myself Unbound. They are the map of a journey from shadow to radical expression, capturing the moment the spirit finally demands to be seen.
