Drawing: Immediate Marks

In the Hellenic tradition, Pathos is the raw energy of feeling — unmediated, intense, and real. These drawings begin there.
Made in ink on paper between 2017 and 2020, they represent the most direct form of mark-making in the practice — the hand moving before the mind intervenes. Two distinct bodies of work appear here: autobiographical drawings that map intense interior states, and politically engaged drawings that respond directly to the social and civic pressures of their moment.
In both cases the method is the same — energetic, instinctive, discovered rather than planned. The mark leads. The image follows.
These drawings function as a parallel practice to the paintings — sometimes as studies, sometimes as complete works in their own right. Their connection to the current breath drawings is real: the same quality of attention, the same trust in the moving hand, now slowed to the rhythm of the breath.
