Drawing: Immediate Marks
In the Hellenic tradition, Pathos is the raw energy of feeling — unmediated, intense, and real. These drawings begin there. These drawings were made in ink on paper between 2017 and 2020, when the pressure of public life on private feeling became impossible to separate. Two bodies of work emerged together: one autobiographical, mapping interior states in the direct language of the moving hand; one political, responding to the civic crises of those years with the same urgency. Neither was planned. Both were necessary.
The method is the same throughout — instinctive, energetic, discovered in the act of drawing. Text breaks into image, image dissolves back into mark. The hand moves; the meaning catches up. These works are a parallel practice to the paintings, and the ancestor of the breath drawings that followed — the same quality of sustained attention, found here in its most unguarded form.
