Socially Engaged Work: The Art of Praxis
My socially engaged projects are rooted in the Hellenic concept of Praxis (πρᾶξις): the realization of art through purposeful, collective action. Inspired by the activist spirit of my heritage—embodied by figures like composer Mikis Theodorakis—I view the artist not as an isolated observer, but as a vital participant in the civic landscape.
In these works, I turn my focus outward, responding to the pressing social, political, and environmental concerns of our time. Just as my studio practice navigates the internal landscape, these projects apply the architecture of awareness to the world we share. Land use, climate change, and the human impact on the natural world inform the imagery, while questions of equity and access guide the underlying concept.
By engaging with the "pulse and friction" of the world, I seek to bridge the gap between individual observation and societal awareness. These pieces move from personal reflection toward a collective responsibility, inviting a dialogue on how we might navigate global challenges with the same courage required in the creative process—moving from fracture toward a more conscious, sustainable release.

The State of Greece
ΕΝΟΙΚΙΑΖΕΤΑΙ - ΠΩΛΕΙΤΑΙ FOR RENT – FOR SALE The words: ΕΝΟΙΚΙΑΖΕΤΑΙ - ΠΩΛΕΙΤΑΙ: FOR RENT - FOR SALE dominate the streets, structures and spaces of Greece, repeating themselves ad nauseam along blocks of once occupied homes and shops, spelling out the current, disastrous Greek state of affairs. It is impossible to ignore these signs, and their menacing forebodings. They point to a co-existent yet sometimes hidden stress, poverty, and lack of a clear future for Greece that are only too obvious to the people of Greece. |
